Welcome Sydney Stingless Bees!

Posted on March 28, 2017

Rockdale Public School is very proud to be hosts to our latest teachers… Sydney Stingless Bees! Some more information about Stingless Bees:

• They are a perfect pet for schools because they don’t sting!

• The hive is in the big tree near the school sign on Lord Street.

• They only come out of their hive if it’s 18°C or warmer.

• They fly and forage for food within a 500 metre radius from the hive.

• Sydney Stingless Bees are native to Sydney.

• They are roughly 4mm long. We need bees because bees pollinate the plants that we use to grow food. We simply can’t live without bees. By hosting a beehive we are adding to the bee population and to our own wellbeing.
